How to crop a video

01

Choose a video

Open one local video and check its real dimensions before changing the frame.

02

03

Crop and download

Confirm the retained pixels and output settings, process the video in your browser, and download the cropped file.

Crop vs resize vs trim

These controls solve different problems. Cropping changes the visible frame, resizing changes the pixel canvas, and trimming changes time.

Aspect ratio guide

Keep the composition intentional

An aspect ratio controls the crop shape, not where the subject sits. Move the frame after choosing a preset.

Common uses

Crop only what the story needs

Remove recorded borders

Cut away black bars, window chrome, or unused desktop space already inside the video.

Reframe for vertical

Place the important part of a landscape shot inside a 9:16 or 4:5 frame before publishing.

Focus attention

Keep a product, speaker, interface panel, or gameplay region while removing visual noise.

Crop by exact pixels

Use coordinates and retained dimensions when a one-pixel border or fixed canvas matters.

Local processing by design

Your source video stays in this browser tab. Cropping and export run on your device, and Editing.video does not receive the file.

One frame for the whole video

The same crop area applies from start to finish. If the subject moves outside it, use the full editor for scene-by-scene reframing instead of assuming automatic tracking.

Questions

Crop video FAQ

Does cropping change the video duration?

No. Cropping changes which pixels remain in every frame. It does not remove time from the beginning, middle, or end. Use trimming when you need a shorter video.

Why do black bars sometimes remain after cropping?

Some editors place a crop mask over the image while keeping the original output canvas. A true crop makes the retained area the new canvas. This tool exports the retained dimensions as the new frame.

Can I turn a 16:9 video into 9:16 without losing anything?

Not with cropping alone. A narrower frame removes part of the left and right picture. To keep the full frame, resize it with padding or redesign the composition in the editor.

Will the crop follow a moving person?

No. One crop area applies to the whole video in this focused tool. Footage with a moving subject needs scene-by-scene reframing or tracking in a full editor.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Your source video stays in this browser tab. Cropping and export run locally on your device, and Editing.video does not receive the file.

Can I download the cropped video?

Yes. Choose the crop area and output settings, start processing, and download the finished file when the local browser export completes.
